SCAI THE BATHHOUSE opened a new space, SCAI PARK, at TERRADA Art Complex in Tennozu Isle in March, 2017. As a newly renovated section of the gallery’s 270 square meter warehouse, SCAI PARK is an exhibition space serving both functions of preservation and presentation at the heart of the gallery’s work site. A series of curated programmes will showcase new works by SCAI’s represented artists as well as historical masterpieces from the gallery’s collection.
One of the forefront missions for galleries is to present artworks that question the nature of our contemporaneity. Since its establishment in 1989, SCAI has championed the development of contemporary art with a particular focus on Asian artists, providing consistent support for their creations and introducing their practices into its international network.
Now with the establishment of SCAI PARK, we present distinguished pieces from the past for renewed critique and interpretation, aiming to contribute to the formation of visual art discourse in Tokyo.
SCAI PARK introduces pieces — both old and new — from our wider network at the crossing between the artist studio and institutional and personal collections.
Sincerely,
Masami Shiraishi
